Google to Delay Releasing Honeycomb Android as Open Source

According to the Wall Street Journal, “said a Google representative that source code for the latest version of Android will not be awarded because the software is not ready to be adapted for different mobile devices.
- We look forward to offering new features to the plate with Android, but more work is needed before we can offer it to other devices, including phones. Before then, we have decided not to release Honeycomb as open source, “said Representative to the Wall Street Journal. The decision shall not affect partners such as Samsung, Dell, HTC and Acer, are expected to soon release touchpads with the new operative.
Earlier versions of Android for mobile phones are available and can be modified by third parties. This resulted in a number of Android-based products that received a worse reception in the market.
Google says that Honeycomb will be available as open source as soon operative is ready for it. The decision to wait, however, goes contrary to the support that Google has given to the software based on open source. The promise of open source support was evident last fall in connection with Oracle’s atmosphere by Google for patent infringement on the Java platform.
