iPad – Master of the tablets

According to IDC, it has sold 18 million tablets in 2010. Even if competitors of Apple tumble at full speed on this sector, the iPad, the market leader, would not be threatened this year.
Nearly 4.5 million units were sold in the third quarter and more than 10.1 million units during the fourth quarter alone. It was the true Christmas shopping product in Western countries and the increase in sale was also because of expanding distribution channels with telecom operators.
Not surprisingly, Apple has led the show with its iPad, which alone occupies 83% of the market with 14.8 million units sold. Launched in April 2011, the slate of the Cupertino company has nevertheless lost ground later this year from 93% market share in the third quarter to 73% in the fourth. More than a drop in sales, the iPad has especially impacted by dilution of the competition season.
In this regard, it is Samsung, with its Galaxy Tab, was best able to establish itself as a credible competitor for iPad. But the Korean manufacturer has caught only 17% market share in the fourth quarter.
Competition is likely to impact primarily Samsung and the dilution effect should not be felt on the offer from Apple that should keep between 70% and 80% of the market in 2011, according to IDC.
It is true that the iPad 2 enjoys an excellent start with 600,000 units sold in the first 24 hours according to initial estimates, doubling sales of the iPad first generation.
According to analysts, Apple could sell more than 35 million of its slate on a market estimated at more than 50 million tablets in 2011.
Note that the digital tablets are also facing competition from eBook readers. In 2010, nearly 13 million eReaders have found their audience, an increase of 325% compared to 2009.

Twitter increases security

Micro-blogging service Twitter makes it easier to encrypt the login and other traffic to the site. Users of the micro blogging service, has previously been able to use https://twitter.com to encrypt their user names, passwords and other data for communication with the site. Now it should be easier, when the user through the settings may choose to bend in that traffic by default to be encrypted.
“This increases the security of your account and protect better information if you use Twitter over an unsecured Internet
connection, as a public wireless network, where anyone can eavesdrop on your activity at the site “, reads the company’s blog.
For connection to the mobile site is still required that the user enters the https site, ie https://mobile.twitter.com, but as Twitter are to be aimed at that, just increase the safety there as well.
One might ask themselves what the point is to encrypt the publication of Twitter Posts, which nevertheless are posted publicly. According to Paul Ducklin of security company Sophos, the risk that the cookie Twitter sends to your browser intercepted. This means that if someone intercepts your cookie so it can publish posts to your name.

Amazon offers to test applications from computer

Amazon offers to test for 30 minutes on your computer via its web browser before downloading applications available on Amazon Android App Store.

Amazon imagines new ways to communicate with mobile users and Internet users with the new platform applications App Store Amazon. It has a catalog of about 3800 apps available on the Internet via an application for Android Smartphone.
In its retention strategy, Amazon intends to test it on its computer from a remote interface via emulator mobile with Android OS using the Android applications downloaded from its App Store for 30 minutes, passing through the feature “Try Now”. But this feature is currently restricted to Americans

This test period on the computer is made possible through the use of the Amazon EC2 cloud infrastructure, which returns the display of the Android emulator on the PC Web browser.
A little extra time saving is there when compared to what Google offers in the Android Market, where it is also possible to test applications, but for a period of only 15 minutes after buying them on the platform.
Note however that this functionality test before download is not yet integrated into all applications available on the App Store Amazon.

Samsung Nexus A: The new Google Mobile

Nexus S phone is closest to the original Android without frills and proprietary interfaces. That it is fast and has good screen makes it even better.
Just over a year ago released the first so-called Google phone Nexus One. It was a phone that HTC-developed, but which ran Android in its purest form without the interface a la Sense and sold by Google. About a year later launched the sequel Nexus S, this time manufactured by Samsung, but the same principle: one as Android near the interface as possible.
Nexus S was first released, among other U.S. and then with one super-AMOLED display, but was changed to one super-lcd when it came to Sweden. And even if the Super-AMOLED is considered to be better, so is the Super-lcd-screen really well. The intensity is high and the viewing angle is virtually unlimited. The colors are good, even if they are more neutral about it and maybe cold side than the other scale.
The Nexus S , there is also an NFC chip. NFC stands for Near Field Communication and the idea is that you can use your phone wirelessly to the NFC reader and thus, for example, pay bus fares or open doors. The technology is not widespread yet, but the potential is quite clear.
Quality of Nexus S very stable although it is mostly made of plastic. No metal parts reinforce the impression, but it will not plasticky though.
Another interface like HTC’s Sense is quite different and offers a lot of extra features. But mostly, you can still fix the apps in the form of second Launchers, widgets and the like.
Nexus S is fast. Android 2.3 further enhances the experience of reports compared to previous versions. We can not say that we notice any difference with a dubbelkärning phone Optimus 2X in common usage.
Compared with the previous Google Mobile Nexus One, we are a couple of minus: the absence of the slot that we have mentioned earlier, and that it has no LED for communication. In addition, it can not record video at 720p which we expect from a phone in this price range.
If you want a clean Android phone without any superimposed interface, and also get the latest updates first, this phone is for you. But remember that you can not expand memory.

Amazon's Cloud Drive faces music industry backlash

While ostensibly beating Apple and Google to market with its music locker service, Amazon's new Cloud Drive online music streaming service was launched before licenses from music owners were in place, threatening a new legal battle.

According to a report by Reuters, Sony Music spokeswoman Liz Young said her company "was upset by Amazon's decision to launch the service without new licenses for music streaming."

"We hope that they'll reach a new license deal, but we're keeping all of our legal options open," Young said.

Sold before the deal was struck

The report cited a source "close to the discussions" between Amazon and the music labels as saying that "music labels were alerted of the plans last week," and that Amazon only addressed "the issue of negotiating licenses" after the fact.

Amazon's move was described as "somewhat stunning," leaving some media industry members to view the service as illegal.

"I've never seen a company of their size make an announcement, launch a service and simultaneously say they're trying to get licenses," the source said, who was described as a music executive requesting anonymity.

Amazon appears to have jumped the gun in a bid to get ahead of Apple. While Amazon entered the music download market in late 2007, offering both slightly lower prices on MP3s and bargaining with the labels to offer DRM-free music before Apple, its music service still hasn't significantly encroached upon Apple's dominant position with iTunes.
Online storage held up by music negotiations

Amazon's Cloud Drive provides users with 5GB of free storage (or 20GB for $20 annually) that can be used to upload music for playback via an Android app or through Amazon's Cloud Play website, which organizes music into playlists.

Since last July, Apple's iDisk feature of MobileMe has similarly enabled users to upload their music (and other files) to the cloud for streaming playback (even in the background) from mobile devices via Apple's free iOS iDisk app, but the company doesn't promote the feature due to ongoing negotiations with the labels.

iDisk is also not depicted as a music cloud service, and does not provide any special display of metadata; music files simply play in place from the online storage just as they would from any web server. Music files can also, like other iDisk documents, be shared with other users.

Music labels have long insisted on special "streaming licensing" for users that want to copy their own music to the cloud for their own mobile playback, something that has held up efforts by Apple, Google, and others to deliver legally legitimate cloud music services.

Apple could double IBM and HP in terms of business.

iPad 2
According to Research based on the recent reports, Apple could achieve a turnover of more than IBM or HP in the next two years.
It’s an interesting comparison on the rise of Apple, made by George Colony, founder and CEO of Forrester Research.
In an interview with Bloomberg, he believes that “sales of Apple could exceed that of IBM and HP over the next two years.” Specifically, George Colony believes that Apple would exceed IBM and HP in 2012 and 2013.
Steve Jobs’ firm could reach 200 billion dollars in sales, posting a sales growth of 50% over the next two years. It will just take a little peek on the latest available quarterly results of three U.S. IT groups.
Apple has achieved a turnover of 26.7 billion (first quarter of fiscal 2011 ended December 25, 2010). IBM shows a turnover of 29 billion dollars over the same period (corresponding to the fourth quarter of its fiscal year 2010). While HP has posted a turnover of 33.3 billion (first quarter of fiscal 2011 ended January 31, 2011).
According eWeek.co.uk, the entire range of Apple and its whole ecosystem is part of this growing insolent. This is particularly the software environment and convergence proposed by the “Apple brand” that attracts consumers.
The launch of the iPad 2 at the international level is not done yet as it will increase the sale dramatically.

Google to Delay Releasing Honeycomb Android as Open Source

,
According to the Wall Street Journal, “said a Google representative that source code for the latest version of Android will not be awarded because the software is not ready to be adapted for different mobile devices.
- We look forward to offering new features to the plate with Android, but more work is needed before we can offer it to other devices, including phones. Before then, we have decided not to release Honeycomb as open source, “said Representative to the Wall Street Journal. The decision shall not affect partners such as Samsung, Dell, HTC and Acer, are expected to soon release touchpads with the new operative.
Earlier versions of Android for mobile phones are available and can be modified by third parties. This resulted in a number of Android-based products that received a worse reception in the market.
Google says that Honeycomb will be available as open source as soon operative is ready for it. The decision to wait, however, goes contrary to the support that Google has given to the software based on open source. The promise of open source support was evident last fall in connection with Oracle’s atmosphere by Google for patent infringement on the Java platform.
